Introduction To Workshops : success!

Today we (the teachers) gave powerpoint presentations detailing our plans for the week. It was very well received. Some classes were more rowdy than others, but in general everyone was well behaved and seemed genuinely interested. The St. Maarten students did a great job presenting and made quite the impression on the students here in Holland. Unfortunately they were still a bit shy and therefore could not properly demonstrate a "st. maarten wuk-up", (*cough cough* Lisa ), but I'm sure they'll do better during Wednesday's workshops.

After the presentation we all sat and watched some short videos made by the RSG'ers and we were all entertained and impressed. They did a great job! Some traditional dutch songs rounded things up and we headed off for the day, eager to return to start the actual workshops.

Let us know what you thought of the presentations today......

  1. As Mr. T commented: the presentations went very well, we are proud of LEHH. Unfortunately they didn't put their hearts into a proper "whine" in order for me to demontrate what I don't teach! The students paid attention and clapped after every presentation.
During the old dutch songs presentation by the RSG'ers I had a dejavu of being in grade school again, Ms. Belzer and I sang our hearts out. Don't worry we will sing for you too when we come back!

We are very excited for the workshops. They will definitely be "hands on" for the RSG'ers.

*Message to all 2nd formers: Be ready to do your dance for our guests when they're in SXM.

LEHH look happy and are being well entertained by their hosts.

We have already identified some of your (STDH)doubles here in the classes. As much as we miss you we also feel like you are here with us.

We encourage you to ask questions, comment, etc.

    Tot ziens,

    AHA (A. Halley)

  2. Hi, it would be nice if you can post those videos about the St. Maarten students (and any other St. Maarten related videos) on http://www.sxmtube.com

That's what the site is there for: sharing videos about St. Maarten.

    Thanks

  3. The presentations that we did for the Havo 2 classes were a success. We really enjoyed presenting and we are very greatful for their attentiveness. Also the creative video's were quite funny, congratualions on making us laugh! It actually looked like they put alot of hard work into making the videos. *HINT HINT Sxm Students**
Even though a student (which name SHOULD have been with held) didn't want to demonstate the famous 'Sxm Wuk-Up', I am sure the wonderful most talented teacher >>MR TYRONE<< will clearly show the RSG studnets how its done.
So until over next adventurre on the grounds of the RSG campus,

    This is Lisa saying... DOEIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!!!!!

  4. Well, as Mr.T and Ms.Halley said, the introduction to the workshops went very well. The teachers began by giving their schedule for the upcoming week, and then us, the students, continued on to help with the intoduction with a powerpoint. We explained St. Maarten dance and its changes over the years, and then Mr.T gave an introduction about Capoeira. Most of the students were quite quiet, spontaneous, and they participated by asking questions. I think that most students are quite excited to learn the Ponum Dance and also capoeira. We hope to really get our message across during these upcoming days and workshops. I was a bit shy in the beginning with the new crowd, but I think that I have gotten used to the people till then. The students, teachers, and people here are really nice, and I'm having a lot of fun. Hopefully, the students here have a positive response to everything we have and will show them.

    Xoxo,

  5. As late as this reaction is here I go...
As everyone has already made so clear, the presentations yesterday went great! Now the Dutch students know what to expect each day and hopefully look forward to it... I know I do!... as nervous as I am. In the actual presentations Monday it's true that some classes were less quiet but we were still excited to inform them and it was recieved well. Now that we've already spoken to most of the students and held some presentations I think we feel more comfortable about the rest of the workshops. I enjoy presenting now and look forward to every new day of school to see the Dutch students' reaction and learn more about their culture as well. Furthermore I hope everyone on SXM will follow as we post our daily activities on this blog and that they are excited about KANS just as we are.

In case you were wondering which crazy person posted here...

That wud be me, Hazel ;-P

  6. Well, Hazel, Lisa, Ekta and Hasib. You were great today. Who said she was shy ??????? It can't be Ekta, because she and the others knew exactly what to do and how to explain all the sports that you do in the gym at home with Mrs Belzer. We're looking forward to tomorrow.

  10. Wow! The teachers scared me to death, because I walked into my next class and there were my teachers and later I found out that I had to do the presentation. so I got very nervous suddenly because I did not practice. I felt better when I was handed a paper to read from and it went well.
