Workshop Day # 1 : The way we play sports at St.Dominic

Today Mrs. Belzer gave our first workshop of the week. She definitely set the standard for the rest of the week. She explained how because of the lack of (Sport) facilities at St. Dominic High, we spent a lot of time playing "games" that don't require much additional material. Ekta, Hazel, and Lisa together with Mrs. Belzer all introduced the games and split the classes up into groups. Hasib was right at home explaining the nuances of Cricket to the RSG'ers. We had a GREAT time! Earlier in the day the St. Maarten delegation also took part in some traditional dances after a short demonstration by the Dutch students. A moment of spontaneous bonding occurred when Lisa recognized a hip hop dance choreography and joined in seamlessly with the RSG girls.
How was your day today? Let us know what the workshop experience was like for you by reacting to this blog post!

  1. Well todayy was yet another successful day with the RSG students. Thank you for involving us in your folk dances it was fun, but don't forget tomorrow is our turn to get revenge with you guys (Mwuahahahhahahaha/*angel*) With the Gym Lessons I was glad to see that everyone actually enjoyed playing our 'Ghetto Games.' I think everyone really had fun. Some people REALLY put a smile on our faces when playing certain games, other were just HILARIOUS. And why use such technical words such as "Hip Hop Chereography" when we were just simply doing the *SOULJA BOYY*. It wass cool to see that people all over the world do this dance eventhough they speak a different language. Soooo until tomorrow when we buss out with our Merengue & Ponum dance (CHICKEN Dance!! Inside joke Ekta ),

This is Lisa signing off saying...

    TOT MORGEN!!!!!!!

  2. So I might not be the first... but second is good to right? RIGHT!? -continuing-
The first workshop was as Lisa as already stated a succes...AGAIN!=D I had fun with the Dutch folk too. I think it's great how they put together they're own dance like that displaying their own culture. Due to the first workshop (yesterday's workshop) the students now probably have a good understanding of what gym is like at St. Dominic High. They also got to see pictures of our gym so they saw our...limited facilites. I heard a lot of excited responses from the Dutch students, they seemed to really like the games we showed them. As soon as the students got a hang of the games they became exciting and usually funny! So much for yesterday (today was dancing, for reactions on that... see 2nd workshop)

This is Hazel saying good bye (well actually I'm going to react on the next workshop post because I forgot yesterday ;) )

  3. So...I might be a bit late, but better late than never.

Yes, the workshops were really successful, and I could see that most children enjoyed the games, that were quite local. But everyone ended up having a great time, and the Dutch wasn't THAT bad! =) Atleast everyone tried...We also had to join in with the Dutch folksdances which were quite...interesting. We showed them a poster with our gym facilities, and we told them about our class timings which they found surprising because they begin school at 8:30. Most of the students began using their brains and smart ways to get through the game quicker to win which was funny and interesting to see. Tomorrow is dance, and I am really excited to see the students dance and move! Hopefully everything will go great.

    Tot ziens! =)
