Today was the first day at St. Dominic High for our guests from Holland. It was great to hear everyone talking about the weekend and also nice to see the students who hadn't yet met them introduce themselves and ask questions. Naomi, Sean and Walter did a great job giving an introduction about themselves and our guest teachers Mr. Gertjan, Ms. Dineke, and Mr. Hans also made quite the impression. They presented several movies and a powerpoint presentation; detailing their school and our recent trip to it. It was great to see the reactions of the students and also to look back at a different perspective of ourselves. It was too much sometimes, as some students were a bit shy having the whole class see them on camera dancing :-) It also brought back the memories of the trip that are still fresh in my head and brought to light some moments that I had forgotten about! All in all : GREAT FUN! and a wonderful introduction.
The RSG'ers also came by and added their unique personalities to our "String Band" rehearsals during the recess. Walter was also heard mentioning he loved the food in the cantine. What else has been said so far?
What did you think of the videos? Are you sad you didn't make the effort to write an essay to go yourself? Remember this for the next time, you only get opportunities like this every now and then...what do you have to lose? enough about that....let's hear what you thought of having the kids in class with you today. Are you excited about the workshops? Blog away!

First one! =)
ReplyDeleteI didn't really feel much of a difference in classes because none of the students from Holland are in my class yet, but meeting them in the morning, recess, and after school was really nice. I hadn't seen Sean or Walter yet, so this morning I spoke to them and asked them about their flight, new friends, and how they liked our school. They really liked it and everyone was nice to them so I'm glad that they're getting the same treatment we did when we went up there.
For the 5th and 6th period, 2C had their first presentation/workshop by the RSG teachers and students. We were shown a little promo video along with a video about our trip to Holland. As Mr. T said ,it definitely brought back all the memories and friends I will never forget =). Everyone really liked the school and atmosphere shown from the video. We got little introductions from the teachers and students in English, and everyone was really getting along.
Tomorrow is street dancing and I can't wait to learn something new.
Xoxo,
-Ekta ;)
chupz! second pshh i hate you ekta( i Love yuhh)
ReplyDeleteSecond aint bad:D*winks
Today was very interesting getting to know more about each other well our Holland correspondents. However there were some things i didn't see coming such as Sean having a twin sister, but hey you learn something new everyday.
I also really enjoyed the videos of my fellow amigas Ekta, Lisa, hasib etc.. It was really nice to see they really representaed our school and didnt hold back. Althoguh when i saw lisa crying tears were ready to fall..:(
It was also very nice to learn about their school Rsg and their different classes. I really am surprise they have wood art if that's the name as a subject that is soooo cool building stuff.
Well soo far the first day was a blasttt!!:)
I am also looking forward to learning street dancing.
I am feeling scared yet excited!!
Whooooiiiiiiiiii!:)
Peace outtt!!
NOOOO MAN!!! Ekta why so meannn?? You know I'M suppose to be firstesttt.
ReplyDeleteAnyways...
Today seemed to be a good first day for the RSG students, they seems to like our environment a lot. The presentatins were really nice and at certain point even embarassing (I wonder why..?)Other than that I learned new thing's about the people and the school that I never knew before. Like I never knew that Sean was a twin? >>:O<< Also, don't remember seeing a music room (It looks so coooL..on video!)
In class and in the recess everyone was really nice and friendly so I'm really sure many people made new friend already. Hopefully at the end of the week there will be some tears..that is not started by me! On the other hand, drama today was really fun. We (2B) have Walter and Sean in our class; Sean basically taught our drama class today and we learned a very cool, fun warm up drama game from him. Even though we didn't reach our goal it was funny doing the game. They are both great actors and am SURE they enjoyed our drama class..(*wink wink* 2B inside joke)
So after a great arrival, a fun week-end, and an enjoyable first day...let's see what tomorrow has instore. (Break-dancing going be SICKK!!! I can feel the pain in my bones already!)
Until the next time when I/Yo/Je/Ik write the first blog entry,
this is Lisa saying
Peace Outt/ Doeiiii!

we saw how nervos there were when they came through the gates and they also did stod out among the other students so that made them very uncomfortable but as the day progressed they felt more relaxed and comfortable. during the presentations i think they did a great job and i saw some stuff we did in Holland.
ReplyDeleteok lets see...the first day.. On the first day there were presentations and also introductions. As our class (2A) came into the room and we sat down wondering what they were going to talk about. They started off with the introduction. Everyone introduced themselves and said a little about themself. Then they showed us a few videos of when the students from St.Maarten went to Holland. It was interesting to see the different activities they did in Holland. Hopefully they will have just as much fun or even more!
ReplyDeleteThe first day was cool, meeting the students from Holland. Naomi, Sean, and Walter were really nice and friendly. On the first day they introduced themselves and explained their lifestyle. Then they showed us a video of the school and students over at Holland. Overall that day went good.
ReplyDelete- Monica Lalwani
On the first day,Naomi, Sean, and Walter gave an introduction. Naomi was a bit shy at first though. Walter seemed like a friendly person. He would talk to anyone who started to talk to him. Sean was a bit shy for the first half of the day, but he became more open later on that day. These were the way that Naomi, Walter, and Sean were acting on the first day. The videos that they showed were really nice.
ReplyDeleteI am... SO late... but here I go... =D
ReplyDeleteThe first day for the RSG'ers at our school...
That morning Naomi said that she felt like it was like the first day of going to a new school. A lot of the students already met the Dutch students over the weekend but now everyone could introduce themselves to them. The first few periods the Dutch students did some presentations about their school and our trip to Holland. The videos definitely brought back memories. And YES Mr T I might have been a bit reluctant to watch the videos of me dancing...Anyway all the teachers and students from Holland introduced themselves, we even got "haagse hopjes" which no one can pronounce xD Either way it was a successful start to the visit of the RSG'ers
-Hazel ;P
I was really excited to see the students and hearing what thy had to say was even more interesting. I also liked ther video.
ReplyDeletethe videos of the dutch skool in holland was real intereting i actually learnt alot from taht 45 mnutes of waching th video. Well...Well...Well...It seems as if I'm always late. Today (which was the 11th of may) I had the pleasure of introducing the various instruments in the string band to the RSGers. Those are some crazyyyyy people. I also learned that Sean's mom plays the Djemebe...interesting, huh?! I think the students enjoyed the music of Bush Tea first hand..they even played along. I was glad for the xcuse to skip mentoring (a). Haing the RSGers in class with me was Ah-mazing!
ReplyDeleteN The videos...they were superb. During the intro...I could tell that the RSGers were nervous..but I dont blame them. I wudve been nervous too!!
Good good RSGers...u guys made a lasting impression on us..n it was a gd one!!
XoXo ShA-RiJ-k3
it was pretty cool meeting the kids from holland..they turned out diffrent than i expected..they were nice..they opened up easily and they had a great sense of humor since they caught onto my jokes :D...and even though i couldn't exactly speak the best dutch to them for them to understand i gave it my best shot..and what'd you know..they caught on :D...it was interesting to find out on the first day their types of music and that two of them had twins :D
