A time to come and a time to go, the time to go has come ...

As with all good things, our KANS project has reached its end. But the friendships forged and the knowledge gained should endure for far longer. Today, we gathered together with all 2nd forms and danced traditional Dutch folkdances. Everyone was super energetic, at times a bit distracting, but always excited. After that, we watched several videos of presentations made by the students of our 2nd form, and we launched the website that contains our KANS project material. The idea is to continue the knowledge exchange for not only this year, but in hte year (s) to come. Check out the site at: http://kansproject2009.wordpress.com

WHen it was time to say goodbye (officially) gifts were handed out, speeches were made, but nothing could really capture the experience of the week that had passed, and neither the trip to Hollland by our students. I hope that everyone really enjoyed taking part in this project and that it will encourage you to take part in future projects, whatever the field may be.

So finally, let us know what you thought of the folk dances, and of our own students' presentations/videos.
Check back soon for a evaluation form, and fill it out honestly, as it serves to help us make the prgoram better.
Most sincerely,

-Mr. T

  1. A time to go, yes indeed, and you know.... I'm very glad my kid is coming home soon!
Although I've seen they all had a wonderfull time together, it's just so far away from home!

I want to thank all students of the Dominic Highschool for the friendship they gave to the Dutch students. You all made it a week never to forget! The teachers for their lessons and the hospitality in their school.
Mr. T. thanks for all the information you put on the weblog, you stimulated your students to respond. This way we had a pretty good view of this fantastic experience!

And last, but not least, I want to thank all the families the kids have been staying with, the past week. Especially the family where Walter has been staying, family Gursahani. I heard such good things about you. Walter phoned me sometimes, he sent me some messages on MSN, and all the times he has told me about your hospitality. I felt very good about it! Thanks for all of this!
Our whole family and friends followed all the activities on the weblog, thanks for all.

    With warm greetings,
    Janny Prooij, mother of Walter

  2. First student to post!! Feeling proud:D (I told you Lisa, one day I would be first!!)

The folk dancing was fun actually, I like that it's not to serious and just really playful. Everyone gets into it especially with that train.
Our videos where cool, I really liked the Sports video, alot of skating was involved and that was cool. It was kinda weird seeing myself dance though, but it all is fun.

The last day of having them in our school was...sad to say the least. They will be greatly missed. I'll miss you guys sooo much but I hope that we would stay in contact.

    I always stay,
    Nymphaaa

It was also great that they actually gave something to all the students of 2nd form.I wish we had more time because the time went by fast. The whole 2nd is took out the dutch students to movies and i think they enjoyed it a lot. I hope in the future we will still be able to do this really awesome program again.

  7. The closing ceremony was fun, yet so sad! I am still proud of myself for not crying even when EVERYONE was trying there best to make me to.

The folk dance brought back memories... they taught us this dance when we were in Holland and we had funn. Even when doing it again here in St maarten i still had tremendous fun. it was really nice to see my friends and schoolmates enjoy themselves learning a dance that is totally new and differetnt for them.

The videos were very nicely made and presented, applause to the students who played a part in this..not forgetting Mr T who played a big part in this project to. It was really nice to see the outcome of projects which started out as nothing.

At the end of the day I wa shappy that everyone enjoyed this whole project, yet sad that it came to an end so soon. I hope that we will have an oppertunity to do something as nice as this in 3rd form. By the way I heard that everyone had fun and the movies, glad to hear!

    until the evaluation thingy,

    Bye!!!

  8. i absolutely LOVED the folkdancing. Honestly..I thought it was going to be exremey boring, but boy was I wrong. Ms Dineke and Mr Hans were soo much fun to dance with. The train was really fun.

I really loved the videos Mr T put up. He did a great job putting the videos and the blogs together. He does deserve an applause.

It's sad that the students and teachers from holland have to leave so soon. The closing ceremony was very sad. As Lisa said I really do think that everyone enjoyed this entire project and I hopewe have many more in the next few years. i reallly do want to keep in touch with the students in hollan and et to no much much more about them.

    -Shelly

P.S. All the teachers also deserve an applause for putting this project together.

  9. The final ceremony thing was lots of fun but really sad at the same time. It seemed like yesterday when they arrived and now theyre leaving. I have to admit im gonna miss them a lot.

Im gonna miss playing basketball with Walter and Sean...I didnt really get to tell them good bye :'( But all good things (that happen) have to come to an end.

I hope we can meet again sometime. Kans project is an awesome program and i hope it keeps on going throughout the years.

Good Bye Walter, Sean, Naomi, Mr. Hans, Ms. Dineke, and Mr. Gertjan,

  10. Time to leave?
Well, it was after-all for a good purpose, to explore our cultures and learn about theirs. That is the true meaning of KANS.. Thats correct right Mr.T? I don't want to be going on about something that is not right... Well, we learnt their folk dance I will be sure to use it when I am in a disco.
Especially the part where both ppl go down and start dancing. I will be sure to get a million views on youtube if I make that into a video :P.
Overall, I will miss everyone and I hope that they enjoyed SXM just as much as we do now. xD
An end to a successful year of KANS

Bye Walter, Sean, Naomi, Mr. Hans, Ms. Dineke, and Mr. Gertjan.

  17. Their final day in school...already?!

Time really passed by, and it seems like the week just flashed before our eyes. The folk dancing was really fun, especially the 2nd one where we got everyone dancing at once! It was nice to learn a little bit of the Dutch culture and folks dance and to see how different it is from our national dance, the Ponum. The videos were pretty cool, too. It was the first time I saw them myself. After that, the goodbyes began and gifts were handed out to the (i) hosting families, (ii) teachers involved in the exchange, (iii) and students involved in the exchange. The RSG school was really nice and brought little gifts for all of our 2nd-formers. Everyone received RSG pens, protractor, and a neck hangie thing, something small for us to remember them by. =)

I said bye to the teachers, because I knew I wasn't going to see them again. It was really nice knowing them, because everyone was really nice. I just wish that they could've stayed longer. =(

I hope they had a safe flight back up, and enjoyed their time here, because I know I definitely did! ;) Hope to keep in contact with everyone; our new friends =) ;).

    Xoxo,
    -Ekta! ;)
